Cooling Refrigerants of the Future.

Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. If there weren’t refrigerants, there wouldn’t be air conditioning. Over the years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 as a result of its negative effects on the environment.

Introducing R-410A

R-410ATo lessen environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and doesn’t contain chlorine, making it ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in Antioch because it’ll help make your cooling system work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and deliver the same cool comfort in the warmer months.

Additional Considerations

If your AC or heat pump was made prior to 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You may want to investigate upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is completely unavailable. The old refrigerant will become hard to find in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Temptrol Heating & Cooling Inc. work with R-410A, so you know we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. You should also avoid”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
